I use a combo of Roku and Firesticks through the house. Since I have a raspberry pi with pihole on it all the ads and telemetry is blocked, or at least majority of it is.

I did this as well. Been buying Samsung since 2006 and finally said let’s get a high end one around 2017… it was incredible, for like 4 months, then it started having some issues with lines appearing on and off. It was so quick at first I didn’t think to take action (also in denial). By the time it was bad it was like a year later and the warranty was over. I haven’t needed a tv in years since I’m living with it, but the next one will no longer be a samsung.
Nobody is saying the TV won’t work just because updates stop. Although I really haven’t seen an LED or LCD look to good after 10 years, either.
I was about to comment this. And to anyone saying they are taking that away we all know how bad they are at removing legacy options so I’m sure this will be here until at least windows 14.
Did the exact same thing with Helldivers 2.
The bigger shocker to me is that the platform still exists at all… didn’t the largest advertisers pull out? I thought it was hemeraging money. I keep waiting for them to pull the plug on it, or at least sell it at a huge discounted price.
And you probably paid less to not have that happen as well!
I am thrilled right now that our company only started relying on cloud resources a few years ago and still don’t use services like this… I hope this is a wake-up call to them, so we never use something like this. I know the execs finally realized the cloud is not cost effective, and I hope we keep it a mixed bag instead of going in fully. I have been in IT for 18 years now, and thankfully, I have never had to deal with a disaster like this. Another close call was outsourcing our IT service desk to a company, and they wanted us to put agents on our pc’s so they could do their job easier. Luckily, our network team said absolutely not. Sure enough, that same year at Christmas time, they got hit with a crypto attack, and instead of having to deal with the agents, we just shut down the tunnel, and we’re fine. A lot of their clients were not so lucky. Screw the cloud and 3rd party services… it doesn’t save what you think, and you get poor services in return a lot of the time.
I used to use Subsonic, but it’s become too outdated for me sadly. I switched to a fork Navidrome which updates a few times a year and enjoy the improvements it’s been providing. I use it with the mobile app Symfonium and love that they are both improving the API to add additional features and options over what Subsonic offered. I run it on my Synology in Docker so you should have no issues either.
I thought this already existed for the right? Also, it’s ad free. I only heard about it a few weeks ago. The site seems decent enough except that the content is all awful and only dedicated to the right sided people…
Name is odysee in case they want to look.
