  • Short answer: you want sogo. It has webmail integration for calendars and integrated calendar sync and task sync and contact sync and all the config URLs can be copied directly in the web interface. Just install davx5 and any task manager and calendar app and you are good to go. :)

Its so good I even earn some of my money by renting my system out too others with their own custom domain. :))

  • This result matches largely with the startups claims. Given what they tested, cycle times and aging are largely unknown and thermal management requirements are quite high for fast charging, this results in problems with packing, aging and charge losses. Its a nice first step, but there is a ways to go until market readiness IMHO.

I’m something of an electrical engineer but not a battery expert by any means.

  • I have long suspected that its a techies responsibility to take care of their immediate friends and family in regards to self hosting. SoiI usually offer that service for free to my extended family. I usually tell them they have to rely/trust someone, might as well be me and if it weren’t them I would charge customers X money for that service monthly. So it becomes a gift and something personal and they feel taken care of and when the dreaded “help me with my email” call comes you just pop open their account without trying all the password on that crusty sticky note and look into it. I especially love those “they claim they didn’t get that email” calls. Pop open the log and send the excerpt of their server accepting the email to the claimant and boom number one of all the standard excuses is done for. I once saved my mums job that way.

  • I use sogo for that. Includes a web interface as well as proper authentication mechanisms and sync integration. Is also lightweight and even allows LDAP integration oif you like.

Also caldav support for tasks and events as well as carddav for contacts. Also allows connections to any email account for sharing calendar events and being invited via email.

  • I think most people tend to overlook the most obvious advantages and are overly focused on what is supposed to be and marketed as.

No need to think how to feed a thing into google to get a decent starting point for reading. No finding the correct terminology before finding the thing you are looking for. Just ask like you would ask a knowledgeable individual and you get an overview of what you wanted to ask in the first place.

Discuss a little to get the options and then start reading and researching the everliving shit out of them to confirm all the details.

  • Funnily enough I have written a system to do exactly that as a bachelor’s theses for IT security.

Places client certificates and a client inside the initrd and requests securely the key to unlock.

The sever waits for you to approve the request before providing the key. The key is only held in memory during boot.

I had a version that included for a hidden key provider and planned for a version that included time based auto unlocks etc.

I was planning to package that and release it as open source.

    Still might do that.
