Iirc, didn’t the article say that was one of many hypothetical scenarios they try to plan accordingly for? Like you said, it’s been awhile since it came out, so I could easily be wrong. I imagine it won’t be a problem any time soon, though. There are always desperate people, and simply changing policy to allow rehiring people that had previously been fired/quit would open eligible candidate pools back up.

Yeah, this dataset seems very incomplete/limited. I’d also argue that the US probably doesn’t have over 5000, as many of these vendors have their “own DC” that’s just hoteled inside the same giant multi-building complex.
I don’t think Pokemon is first-party since that IP and the dev studios fall under The Pokemon Company, whereas games like Mario and Zelda are developed by studios within Nintendo itself. I could be wrong.
Edit: I just looked it up, and yep, Nintendo only owns 33% of The Pokemon Company.
Yeah, games like Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart, Luigi’s Mansion, etc. are fun as hell and very polished. I can’t think of a single first-party Nintendo game that’s released riddled with bugs in recent memory, whereas the rest of the industry can’t say the same, excepting Sony’s first-party games.

It’s still better than ICE, as that also creates waste and actively pollutes, but it’s still notable and hopefully over time those negative byproduct can also be eliminated/significantly reduced.
Just to nitpick, they can stop scraping, anyone can. However, doing so would require implementing barriers that tend to also negatively effect sites that are dependent on being discovered and browsed.

Makes sense, its user base is extremely small and the tech still has a ways to go before it’s more accessible and practical. In other words, the headset needs to much lighter, smaller, and more comfortable in addition to being much cheaper. I think their target for their next iterations should at $1500 or less. In order to do all of those things, tech needs to progress further and batteries need to improve, which who knows how long that’ll be before we get something better than lithium ion in terms of power density.
Ackshually, being too close to high power radio frequencies isn’t safe. I remember at one base I was stationed at in Afghanistan, there was a smoke spot we all used to take breaks at. For some reason, I started developing really bad headaches and feeling kind of nauseous. I figured I was just acclimating to the local climate or something. After a few weeks, I was up on our building installing one of our satcom dishes on top of it when I noticed something. Right on the other side of the fence of that smoke area, was a ~2m high powered dish pointing just above above where the smoke area was. I pointed this out to the Norwegians that ran the camp and the break area was promptly moved, lol.

Is there a big advantage to using Moonlight/Sunshine vs the built-in Steam remote play feature? I regularly stream from my desktop to my Steam Deck without too many issues, although sometimes I get weird minor problems (e.g. Banishers Ghosts of New Eden will be noticeably darker, Elden Ring will get random “flashes” where the screen kind of blinks for a split second from time to time). These issues are hardly a big deal for me, so I’m more curious than seeking a true alternative.
I think people are ignoring looking at this through the lens of anti-competitive behavior. Right now there is an alternative, yes. But Apple continues to grab the marketshare in the US (and some Asian and EU markets). However, there is no guarantee that will be forever. Sure, they support SMS now, but again, no guarantee that’ll continue to last.
Apple has displayed on numerous occasions that they do not care about interoperability with other platforms and have even been outright hostile and aggressive against them. Just look what happened when some kid figured out how to make iMessage work on any other platform. Sure, that kid’s solution was hacky, but he was 16 years old. If one kid can do it, then there’s absolutely no justifiable reason seasoned software engineers can’t figure out a secure solution.
It astounds me that there are so many people defending any company that not only encourages walled gardens, but in some cases aggressively enforces it. Yeah there are alternatives, but people are lazy and seek convenience. iMessage just works by default, and so many folks get annoyed or even sometimes confused when non-Apple users ask them to use a 3rd party app to communicate with modern features instead of being stuck with SMS’s severe shortcomings.
That’s why I think the DOJ is justified in this. Because it is anti-competitive behavior.

As a side note, I don’t understand why so many folks aren’t worried about another superpower replacing the US’s slowly waning stranglehold. Look at all the fucked up shit the US has done around the world, and that’s with a quasi-democratic government that at least has a modicum of domestic and international accountability. Now replace that with a totalitarian regime that virtually answers to no one. I mean, this is the same regime that has committed a genocide within just the last decade. Can you imagine what they’ll be capable of when they’re the main powerbroker that has no peers?

The fact that he’s telling employees to NOT wear bright safety vests because he doesn’t like bright colors is reason enough for me to believe that safety culture at SpaceX is likely absolutely bare minimum or worse. The one employee died because he rode on top of unsecured foam insulation like a fucking idiot with multiple coworkers who encouraged it/didn’t prevent it from happening.
Is the article making it seem worse than what’s “normal” for the space manufacturing industry? I don’t know, and neither do you, as the mining industry is a hugely different environment than space manufacturing. All we have to go off is the evidence provided here, and it doesn’t look good.

To be fair, it didn’t start out that way. A lot of tech companies just didn’t want to be seen as being behind while OpenAI was making shockwaves around the globe. Iirc, after ChatGPT hit the mainstream a couple years ago, Google’s CEO was said to have sent a company-wide email demanding their own AI research become their number 1 priority.
Now that they finally have their own competitive model, they have to justify why they spent hundreds of millions of dollars over numerous years on this tech. Unfortunately for the rest of us, this just means enshittification will reach new levels… sigh…
