Linux@lemmy.ml•What are common tools on Linux to wipe an HDD pre RMA?English
2·11 months agoInstalling an operating system and enabling encryption won’t overwrite the data on the entire disk. Instead, it will only overwrite on the specific sectors on which this operating system was installed.
Other “previous” data on the disk will remain intact and unaffected.

6·1 year agoThank you very much! It works now!!! I used the
disable-gpp0-wakeupservice workaround from here. Unfortunately, I can’t wake my computer with the keyboard or mouse, only with the power button, but I’ll figure that out on my own.Thank you so much for pointing out the issue.

11·1 year agoAll “Wake on” things are disabled in my UEFI settings.
To be sure, I also reset the UEFI to have “clean” settings, but that didn’t help, unfortunately.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•How does hypixel have their website and minecraft server on their root domain? (I would like to do something similar)English
21·1 year agoMinecraft is a building game where latency does not matter as much as in shooter games. For example, if your latency is 200 ms, you can play Minecraft smoothly, while in FPS games it is unacceptable 😉
Edit: In addition, the Minecraft server can use UDP protocol to serve the server status (but only for this purpose and it is not, nor has it ever been used by the game client). In the past, it was used to display the number of players on websites with server listings, but this can be considered deprecated now – today they use the same protocol as the game client.
