They are slowly creeping back in. Once ad blockers became mainstream (I blame Apple), the war on them began in earnest. I already see them reappearing on YouTube and Reddit.
You can scoff and declare that no one should use these platforms, but both have captured whole swaths of discourse and content online. And they will just keep chipping away at making sure the ads appear. Cat/mouse, all that.
The ones I’ve seen are trigger happy on labeling anyone who disagrees a bot.
It seems both sides are really into the idea that robots are discussing things with conspiracy theorists.

This. And the reason the hearing aid stuff is even happening is due to rule changes that happened in (I think) the last 4 years. They loosened up definitions and requirements in light of the current tech landscape.
