Presumably after months to years of litigation they can then repossess the servers, but then X would probably at the last minute pay the bill.

It really comes down to feature removal. Elon annihilated Twitter’s staff, and the more features they can cut, the less staff they need. It may not seem like much to maintain a block feature, and if you have a staff, it’s not. But you do need to have probably some sort of blocker backend service, a blocking UI, probably an unblocking UI (I dunno if that’s a thing I don’t use twitter), storage that keeps track of who blocked who, and somebody who knows how all that works.

Musk has said that humans drive with only eyesight, so cars should be able to drive with just cameras.

This of course assumes 1) that cameras are just as good as eyes (they’re not) and 2) that the processing of visual data that the human brain does can be replicated by a machine, which seems highly dubious given that we only partially understand how humans process visual data to make decisions.

Finally, it assumes that the current rate of human-caused crashes is acceptable. Which it isn’t. We tolerate crashes because we can’t improve people without unrealistic expense. In an automated system, if a bit of additional hardware can significantly reduce crashes it’s irrational not to do it.

It’s not illegal in the broke an actual government law sense, but it certainly violates every moral principle I’ve ever heard of. Instead of being generous and grateful for his wealth, the richest man has decided to buy the largest place where news is shared on the internet, fired almost all the employees primarily out of spite, and pirated the network for the sake of turning it into a propaganda platform for an attempted dictator who will make him even richer.

“Hallucinations” is the wrong word. To the LLM there’s no difference between reality and “hallucinations”, because it has no concept of reality or what’s true and false. All it knows it what word maybe should come next. The “hallucination” only exists in the mind of the reader. The LLM did exactly what it was supposed to.

Whenever I see these articles, I feel like it’s part of OpenAI’s marketing strategy to use the fear-based media to pump up the sense of how revolutionary their tech is. Kinda like how they marketed GPT-4o by openly tying it in to the movie Her, as if ChatGPT is gonna replace relationships. They’re clearly very aware of what gets attention and going for that.

To steel man the downvoters, maybe there are other solutions besides killing off every business that can’t afford to comply with copyright. After all, isn’t the whole point of copyright to enable the capitalist exploitation of information?
